Had a great day recording with Dougie Evans today. We’re working on a new dance with choreographers Joe Darby and Kai Downham. Composition is going well, we’ve forged a wealth of integral ideas, textures and bizarre atmospheric sounds in a bid to conjure a conducive mood for the piece. Composing for dance is very challenging, as it’s easy to obfuscate movement with too much and then there are also pitfalls with the semiotic connotations of different genres we may stray into. The great thing is it’s always a humbling, learning experience. Each piece is different but every piece requires the same level of sensitivity and attention to detail. We’re both very excited and confident that this piece will be a great success. It’s planned to be the first of many fruitful collaborations.
