The entrance of the theme is beyond mesmerizing. For me, it’s undoubtedly one of the most brilliantly conceived arrangements in the history of musical thought. That one man can express this much in two minutes is terrifying, but also tantalising for an aspiring writer. I’ve never heard someone make composition sound as effortless as Poulenc. It’s like he casually invites you into a dream; some nocturnal parlour of explicit beauty and wonder. Earth is a cooler place because he envisaged this. That’s how I feel.
