Heart Beat Circuit now on YouTube!

I’m happy to share that Heart Beat Circuit is now listenable (in full) on YouTube. I’m hoping that by sharing it more people will discover Brave Wave and the amazing work they do, and I’m also hoping I might garner a few new fans as it seems to be getting harder and harder to get heard online these days.

Thanks to everyone who’s bought the album so far. Streaming will also help support Brave Wave, who have been heroically supportive of me so far. Thank you!

Heart Beat Circuit is 3 years old today!

My album Heart Beat Circuit is three years old today. Yay!!! It still means so much to me and I am overjoyed that I was able to share so much of my music as well as write alongside some of Japan’s greatest game music composers.

I was super amazed to see this video of incredible dancer Can Nyugen from the dance group Poreotics dancing to my song Krystal this week! Wow!

Hope everyone has a lovely day! g

Update! Life/health/patreon/kickstarter/YOLO

Thought I’d do a big ole update for y’all!

Really happy in my little town, it’s very safe and always bubbling with people pottering around doing stuff and it’s SO CONVENIENT for allowing me to focus on my music work, I can get fresh sushi, chocolate almond milk and all sorts of miscellany like 40m away! Recently I’m thinkin I’d love a dog or a cat or some sort of monster animal, but I’d need a bigger house and to do that I’d need work that brings in more money. In the meanwhile, I’m cruisin, got a cool little home studio setup and a really sociable, fun job that is challenging but rewarding.
Hoping next year I’ll have enough money to do a little tour, possibly try and play Korea or somewhere, that’d be cool. What dreams may come eh!

I think mainly thanks to a ridic new attempt to get more nutrients, sleep loads, drink less and do some fitness every day, my health has improved quite a bit. My blood test shows CRP is down, so my body is definitely fighting less inflammation, which is definitely good. I’ve been able to come off the heavy NSAID meds I was on and move to just using an over the counter Ibruprofen, that has a lot less boatful of crazytown side effects than I’ve been encountering. I feel a lot better spiritually and physically, so my plan is to continue on this positive path toward better fitness and quality of life.

Still very much in its early days, but I’m really thankful for everyone’s support, I’m finally back to playing live again and it’s really exciting to have a small audience that really wants to see that kinda thing! If anyone wants to join, even a dollar a month helps me keep making music, thanks! www.patreon.com/smokethief

Made A LOT of progress with the arrangements, aiming to get one or two more tracks over 100bpm in just to lift the album’s pace a bit, as it’s in danger of being a bit slow-mo! I totally miscalculated how much the album would cost to make, but the Kickstarter really did launch my career and I owe it to those people and to myself to rock this thing. My field recording trips haven’t been as productive as I’d hoped, but I’m hopeful I can scavenge some gold out of them, in their stead, I’ve been really focusing on channeling my sensory, spiritual experiences of nature into melody and harmony. I’m approaching collaborators (both eminent Japanese rapper and instrumentalists) this month, but for whatever reason none of my planned ones have worked out yet. If no one’s up for it, I’ll just spend my studio time on the sax and piano and if possible a day playing with the koto I got and hope the melodic ideas can conjure enough of a setting to hold the album’s vibe together.
So far the album looks to be an independent release, the best thing I can do is focus, get it finished over Christmas and then hope that it turns enough heads to create some label interest. T-shirts, Cds and vinyl with obviously be a bit delayed cos this is all coming out of my pocket, but I think getting the download out will be a strong gesture of commitment to my fans and honouring the promise I made to them exactly 4 years ago now. I’m still buzzing about it, and it’s a good life lesson,Β  obstacles are a part of life, ya just gotta focus on innovating a positive way to get around/go through/transcend them. I feel that I’ve really put a lot of love into the composition-side, I hope that shines a light on some mystical mountains for everybody

Lol, no idea what I was gonna write here. Here’s a nice picture of the local park!

Thanks for reading and supporting me!

Hey guys, really big moment for me, my new CD is now available for international pre-order. CD will ship worldwide around the 20th August. I collaborated with Takahiro Izutani (Bayonetta, Metal Gear Solid 4), Manami Matsumae (Mega Man) and Saori Kobayashi (Nights, Crimson Dragon) to bring you this vision I had of an android coming to life πŸ™‚

If you can share with all your might, I will be eternally grateful!

Huge thanks to Mohammed Taher , Marco Guardia and the team at Brave Wave Productions for believing in me and realizing my first international CD release. And finally, thanks to my fans, friends and family who’ve supported me, sometimes across 6000 miles. You breathe life into my dreams.

What a ride. πŸ™‚

Brave Wave Annual Party Awesomeness

Had an incredible time at the Brave Wave annual party on Friday night! Having worked with the team since December last year, it was a really uplifting, moving experience to meet everyone. A diverse group of people all coming together to bring music to people and create stunning soundtracks. As you can see from the pictures, I’m just totally stoked to be on board and ready for more soundtracks, more collaborations πŸ™‚

Pics stolen from Alex and Mohammed respectively!

Exciting update: Enter The ‘Brave Wave’

I’m delighted to announce that I’m now officially an artist for Brave Wave records. So excited about this!! Brave Wave officially announced my arrival today and I’m SUPER HYPED!!!

Label director Mohammed Taher tweeted earlier,

I am so honoured to be a part of this team and I am looking forward to a long, creative relationship with this supportive label and their incredible band of rogue composers! Keiji Yamagishi, Manami Matsumae, Takahiro Izutani, Saori Kobayashi…. so many heroes of my gaming youth!
My remix of Bounty Hunter was recently featured on Keiji Yamagishi’s Retro-active Pt.1 album, which is set for a CD release soon! I’ve also just finished sound-tracking this podcast episode for Relay Fm, a commission kindly brought to me by Brave Wave.
I was about ready to give up on music last year, but this dream has been rejuvenated. The re-imagining of my first album is now underway and I’ve been loving what I’ve heard so far. I’ve also created a few new tracks so there’s lots of new magic for you πŸ™‚

I really can’t wait to share the new music with you.

As always, thanks for your support. πŸ™‚
